TriboRoll: Rail Friction Measurement Trolley
The Importance of Rail Friction
Rail friction is an important characteristic as it impacts traction, braking, noise, wear, and overall system efficiency.
Measuring friction is an important task as too little friction can lead to wheel slip or slide, while high friction accelerates wear, increases energy consumption, and can damage both wheels and rails.
Friction management is particularly important issue in light rail transit systems, where tight curves, frequent stops, and operation in urban environments increase the likelihood of low‑friction conditions and high‑friction noise problems.
TriboRoll Friction Measurement Trolley
While most rail friction measurement devices are stationary units which limit the user to testing less than a meter at a time, the TriboRoll is designed for high productivity. The TriboRoll can measure the friction coefficient using 17 different measurement positions across the rail head at speeds up to 4.3 km/h.

The Support that You Need
If you’re considering purchasing measuring equipment from a generalist railway supplier with hundreds or thousands of unrelated SKUs you might want to think twice. Make sure that your supplier has the knowledge and experience to show you how to properly use the equipment in the field as well as work with data in the office.
As actual users of the measuring equipment that we sell, PrecisionTrack staff are well familiar with both field operation and office data processing and have the first-hand experience and expertise required to properly support you.
