The Importance of Rail Temperature
Rail temperature plays a critical role in the mechanical behavior of Continuously Welded Rail (CWR). As temperature increases, rails are pushed into compression, and as temperatures decrease, rails are pulled into tension.
High rail temperatures can lead to excessive compression and track buckling, while low temperatures can produce excessive tension which increases the risk of rail breaks.
As climate change drives more frequent heat waves, sharper cold snaps, and greater daily temperature swings, rail systems face more extreme stress cycles, making rail temperature monitoring more critical than ever.

The RailTemp GSM rail temperature monitoring system automatically monitors rail temperature against user-defined thresholds for low and high temperatures. When a threshold is met or exceeded the system automatically sends an alert via SMS text message to up to 4 different numbers.
