Track Geometry

Poor track geometry can lead to excessive rail and wheel wear, abnormal track loading and acceleration, broken rails, fastenings and derailments.

Whether you have a suspected geometry issue that you need to better understand, require absolute geometry for construction purposes, or need to perform regulatory reporting (Subpart C), PTI staff can help.

Measurements are made with EN 13848-4 compliant trollies which are considered the “gold standard” in the industry. Geometry measurements include:

  • + Gauge
  • + Gauge variation
  • + Cross-level
  • + Dynamic cross-level
  • + Twist; multiple custom lengths can be used for calculations
  • + Surface/Vertical Alignment; left, center and right rail, both short and long chords
  • + Horizontal Alignment; left, center and right rail, both short and long chords
  • +Curve radius

Reporting is tailored to your unique needs including metric or imperial units, short and long chord (including custom lengths), run-over-run measurement deltas, design value deltas, and local defect reporting.
